The Hilton Adult Tennis Tournament brought together players and fans alike for a weekend filled with delightful matches and camaraderie on September 28 and 29, 2024. Despite a gloomy weather forecast, spirits were high, and players completed all their matches comfortably, showcasing their tennis skills in a lively atmosphere.

This year, 53 enthusiastic competitors took to the courts, participating in men’s and ladies’ doubles on Saturday and mixed doubles on Sunday. Although entries were slightly lower than in previous years due to the change in the KZN trials dates and some extended school holidays, the energy of the event was excellent.

A special shoutout goes to Hilton Quarry Spar, whose generous sponsorship provided not only hampers for the winners but also delicious meals throughout the weekend. Additional support came from local businesses including Profile Properties, Mark de Voest, The Cure House, The Rotunda Farm Stall, Wedgewood Nougat, P.O Box Honey, DUT, and Richard Katandika Sports. Hilton Open Tennis Tournament

Saturday 30th July 2022

Seventy-eight players participated in a most successful tennis tournament at Hilton Tennis Club on Saturday 30 July.   There were forty-four players in the men’s doubles and thirty-four in the ladies' doubles.  Players came from all parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the standard of play was high. 

Due to the high volume of entries, there were too many matches to play at HTC alone. Therefore, St Anne’s school very kindly offered the use of their courts, making it possible to complete the matches before the rain set in.  Sadly the rain continued into Sunday forcing the cancellation of the mixed doubles part of the tournament, as planned.

The Hilton Quarry Spar generously sponsored the tournament, providing hampers as prizes as well as providing all the meals for the whole weekend.   Wedgewood Nougat sponsored highly sought-after prizes comprising different-sized hampers of Wedgewood nougat, biscuits, and chocolates.  Other sponsors included:  Arctic Amanzi, The Rotunda Farm Stall, Romesco Olives, The Hilton Garden Centre, The Cure House, Mac Valley Nut Company, and RK Sports.

Hilton Junior Tournament June 2022

The annual Hilton Junior Tennis Tournament was held over the weekend of Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June 2022.  Due to the pandemic, it has been 3 years since we hosted the Hilton Junior Tournament, so for many children, it was their first time to enter such an event.

Although the Hilton Quarry Spar sponsors the adult Hilton Tournament, even so, they generously donated many of the refreshments and assisted with the organisation of fridges and other sponsorship for the junior tournament. 

We were blessed with perfect sunshine and all matches were comfortably completed within the weekend; singles on the Saturday and doubles on the Sunday morning.  Entries were better than expected considering that families were not used to planning holidays around this tournament – but for once, the private schools and government schools broke up at the same time.  A total of 53 children competed this year in age groups that included: Under 8, 10, 12, 14 and Under 18. 

Thanks must go to Mitch Deetlifs and his team of coaches, Jordache, Richard, Charles, and Mark for making the organisation look easy.  The tennis was played in such a positive spirit with many parents commenting on the significant improvement in their children’s tennis over the two days.   Here are the results of all age groups:
